But is it really so? In addition, the two data parameters of saturation and color gamut coverage are the core of determining the bright color picture, and have little to do with the color number.
The so-called saturation refers to the purity of the color. The higher the purity, the sharper the performance, and the lower the purity, the darker the performance. In English, saturation and hue are saying the same thing. Color saturation is calculated with the three primary color range of the display screen as the numerator and the three primary color range specified by NTSC as the denominator. If the color saturation of a certain display screen is 72% NTSC, it means that the color range that this industrial control liquid crystal display can display is 72% of the NTSC regulations.
Because each pixel of the liquid crystal is composed of red, green and blue (RGB) sub-pixels, the backlight passes through the liquid crystal molecules and is combined by the RGB pixels into any color of light. The brighter the RGB primary colors, the wider the range of colors the display can represent. If the three primary colors of the display screen are not bright, then the color range that this industrial control LCD can display is relatively narrow, because it cannot display more vivid colors than the three primary colors. The way to improve color saturation is to increase the brightness of the backlight and the transmittance of the liquid crystal, which requires higher technology and cost for manufacturers. Different grades of industrial LCD screens on the market have different brightness, and the current highest standard is 72% NTSC.
Color gamut coverage is the most important indicator to measure the color reproduction performance of an LCD screen. The larger the color gamut value, the closer the color restored by the LCD panel is to the true color gamut of nature.
It should be noted that the CIE CIE 1931 x and y chromaticity coordinates and the CIE 1976 u' and v' chromaticity coordinates are mutually convertible. Because it is too professional, the specific conversion process will not be introduced here. The measurement standard of the consumer electronics laboratory and the Chinese electronics industry standard are based on the CIE 1976 u', v' chromaticity coordinate space to calculate the color gamut coverage. That is to say, the color gamut coverage calculated according to industry standards will not exceed 100%, because the maximum color gamut of visible light that the human eye can see is 100%. The color gamut coverage of different display terminal devices is generally between 30% and 45%.
The color gamut coverage of general displays on the market has generally reached 100% srgb (72% ntsc), QLED quantum dot displays can reach 125% sRGB, and professional graphics displays can reach more than 98% Adobe RGB.
