Differences among LED, CCFL and TFT screens

Before the appearance of LED, CCFL was one of the main display technologies. CCFL is still used in many designs, and TFT technology remains the same as CCFL. In the process of purchasing laptops, people will find that there will be a lot of price difference between laptops using CCFL and laptops using TFT with the same configuration. So which of the two display technologies is better?

CCFL is a technical term, which means that the screen has a bright color backlight. To put it simply, a layer of phosphorus coating is added to the light tube in the display, mainly to improve the brightness of the display. So that its effect will become better. TFT LCD screen generally refers to the special computer display LCD screen.

At present, TFT-LCD is divided into two backlight modes: CCFL and LED. CCFL is only a mode backlight in TFT-LCD, so it is inappropriate to compare the two. Only CCFL and LED are used for comparison. The difference between CCFL and LED backlight modes is that LED is DC and low-voltage; The CCFL is high-voltage (600V). Of course, the CCFL of small area also has low-voltage, but it generally has more than 300-400V. The light source of LED can be freely distributed according to different sizes and applications. CCFL is relatively fixed. It needs more diffusion materials to disperse light, so that the brightness uniformity can meet the requirements.

Differences among LED, CCFL and TFT screens

(1) The color gamut of LED is wider, and the color saturation can be more than 105%. On the contrary, CCFL is relatively narrow, and most of them can only be about 70%;

(2) LED is very fast, which can help LCD eliminate tailing;

(3) One of the major defects of LCD is that the "black screen" is not black. If LED dynamic control is used, this problem can be well solved;

(4) LED current can be adjusted;

(5) LED is a green environmental protection product. It does not contain mercury. It is a solid light source with good shock resistance and low voltage safety. Therefore, LED is likely to be widely used in the future.

As for the life of LED, although the life of LED is very long, if users overheat, the life will decline. Now we take a dynamic method to control, so that the life of LED can reach more than 100000 hours. According to different drives, different needs can be met. CCFL usually has a life span of only 20000 to 50000 hours. In terms of the characteristics of CCFL and LED, the breakdown voltage and operating voltage of CCFL are relatively high, and the voltage of LED is very low. So the safety performance of LED is very good.
