Why do car LCD screens have to withstand high temperatures?

2022 07/15

With the development of science and technology, car multimedia is more and more diversified, and the application of car LCD screen in car is more and more. From the previous central control multimedia navigation system to the rear entertainment system, even the instrument panel and rearview mirror have been replaced with LCD screens. Today, Xiaobian talked about LCD screens in cars, which is different from LCD screens in our mobile phones and computers. LCD screen cars can work in very extreme temperatures.

Why should it be emphasized that the car LCD screen should be resistant to high and low temperatures?

First of all, the working environment of the car is more complicated. Whether it's morning or night, spring, summer, autumn and winter, or around the world, our cars work when we need them. Cars are exposed to sunlight in the summer and the cabin temperature is high, so the electronics inside the car must be able to work with the car without problems. In some northern areas, the winter is so cold that ordinary LCD screens cannot work. At this time, it is necessary to display the driving information, and use the high and low temperature-resistant LCD screen to escort the car owner.

The temperature inside the car can reach over 60 degrees Celsius after being exposed to the sun

2. International automobile safety test

According to the standard, it takes 10 days to test all parts of the car, and the performance of the test device can be fully detected.

For LCD screens, the test standards for LCD screens in ISO automotive electronics reliability tests and related standards are as follows:

High temperature storage test temperature: 70℃, 80℃, 85℃, 105℃, 300 hours

Low temperature storage test temperature: -20℃, -30℃, -40℃, 300 hours

High temperature and high humidity test operation: 40℃/90% relative humidity (non-condensing), 300 hours

High temperature operation test temperature: 50℃, 60℃, 80℃, 85℃, 300 hours

Low temperature operation test temperature: 0℃, -20℃, -30℃, 300 hours

Temperature cycle test: -20℃(1h)←r.t.(10min)→60℃(1h), five times

It can be seen from this that the requirements for automotive LCD screens are very high. It must work well for more than 300 hours under extreme conditions from -40°C to 105°C.

Third, the technical difficulties that LCD screens need to overcome

In order to function properly in extreme temperature environments, high-brightness LCD screens also need to remain visible and waterproof in super bright sunlight. As well as GPU, display, etc. The temperature of the LCD module will rise during use. The higher the resolution of the LCD screen/, the greater the heat generation. Therefore, it is also a technical difficulty for the test R&D team to find or develop hardware products suitable for use in the vehicle environment and to match a hardware environment that meets the requirements of vehicle use. For these reasons, automotive displays are relatively conservative compared to the resolution of displays such as mobile phones and TVs.

Now, LCD screen technology has become more and more mature. There are more and more applications of LCD screens in automobiles. Today, LCD screens can fully meet the changing working environment and work requirements of automobiles. The application of LCD screen curtains in automobiles has completed a very big change. Once tech products enter manufacturing and find their way out, the pace of development can be quite rapid.
