As early as a few years ago, it was said that the era of LCD panels was coming to an end, and even many panel manufacturers thought so. South Korea's Samsung and LG have successively announced that they will close their LCD panel business around 2020 and focus on OLED or Micro LED display business.
But now major manufacturers have announced that they will not give up the LCD panel business for the time being. This raises a question, how many years can LCD panels last?
"LCD LCD screen will never be a slave" is a joke in the industry, because every time a new display technology comes out, it will announce that LCD will be eliminated, but after so many years of development, LCD panel has not always been the original "hair boy" ", LCD panels now have a lot of technical blessings.
Everyone is familiar with high resolution and wide viewing angles. In the past, liquid crystal panels could not achieve small size and high resolution due to TFT driving materials, but with the emergence of TFT driving materials such as oxides, small size and high resolution are not a problem. Now LCD panels can reach 2K resolution even on 5-inch screens.
As for the wide viewing angle, the biggest feature of the IPS panel is that it supports a wide viewing angle. It has now been pointed out that the viewing angle of 178 degrees in four directions is not much different from that of an active light emitting OLED panel. As for other wide viewing angle technologies, such as PLS, VA, etc., the effect of wide viewing angle can be achieved.
In addition, the biggest recent improvement of LCD panels is the optimization of backlight technology. With the continuous development of LED light sources, the volume is getting smaller and smaller. For example, the emergence of Mini LED backlight technology has effectively improved the low color gamut of LCD panels. Moreover, quantum dot technology can also improve the backlight effect of LCD panels and improve color performance.
Of course, the biggest advantage of the LCD panel is its low price and controllable cost. With the above enhancement technology, there is no problem for the LCD panel to meet the daily application. In particular, although there are technologies such as OLED and Micro LED, the prices are too high, and there will be no major price cuts in the short term. So LCD panels will still survive in the market for many years.
In the future, LCD panels will still be active in many fields. The vitality of LCD panels is still relatively long, and they will not fall behind in two or three years.
Is the era of LCD panels coming to an end?
